Children’s Dermatology
Dr Joey Lai-Cheong had previously set up a weekly NHS children’s dermatology clinic (age range 0 to 16 years) at the King Edward VII hospital, dedicated to child and adolescent skin problems. Dr Joey has published many articles in high impact journals in paediatric dermatology over the years and has also furthered his experience at the Children’s Memorial hospital in Chicago, USA. In this private practice he sees children of all ages at three clinics.
The most common skin problems and conditions for children and adolescents include:
- Acne
- Allergies
- Eczema
- Moles
- Molluscum
- Psoriasis
- Viral warts
Treatment for Eczema and Psoriasis
Both eczema and psoriasis are very common skin complaints in both children and adults. In the majority of cases eczema and psoriasis are treated using a variety of different topical lotions, which include a combination of moisturisers, steroid creams and ointments.
In some cases more advanced treatments are needed. These include:
- Phototherapy or light therapy which is used for both eczema and psoriasis
- Oral medications, such as Methotrexate and Ciclosporin (eczema and psoriasis)
- Injection treatments, such as Humira (psoriasis)
Allergy testing
Patients with eczema may sometimes require allergy testing, such as patch testing. This is carried out to establish the cause of the condition so that its effects can be reduced. This will be discussed at the time of your appointment if clinically indicated.
